De Jong reveals Prem dream

The young frontman has established himself as a key performer at Twente this season, scoring 13 goals for the Eredivisie club.

His performances for the Dutch side are believed to have caught the eye of several Premier League sides, with Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle thought to the interested.

The 21-year-old, who is contracted in Enschede until 2014, says he would like to play his football in England one day.

"First I want to emphasise that I'm happy at Twente," De Jong told Fifa's official website.

"But every footballer has dreams, me included. One is to play in a major international competition and the Premier League would also be a great challenge.

"You do not know what will happen."

Meanwhile, the striker is excited by the potential return of Steve McClaren following the sacking of coach Co Adriaanse on Tuesday.

McClaren, who won the Eredivisie title with Twente in 2010, has been heavily linked with a second stint at the club but nothing has been confirmed.

De Jong, who made his debut under the former England boss, added: "I played less, but that was because I had just arrived from De Graafschap.

"I developed under him and I also made my first-team debut."
