Swiss striker Blaise N'kufo will miss this summer's European Championship with a thigh injury.
The veteran front man is thought to have suffered a torn abductor muscle and, after undergoing a medical examination, is now facing several weeks on the sidelines.
The 32-year-old was hoping to end a successful season on a high by appearing for the hosts at Euro 2008.
He had scored 22 goals for his club side FC Twente as the Dutch club booked their place in next season's UEFA Champions League at the expense of Ajax and had been expected to feature in Jakob Kuhn's first-team plans.
However, he will now be forced to watch the action from afar, with his place in the squad going to Young Boys' in-form forward Thomas Haeberli.
The 34-year-old has made just one previous appearance for the national side, back in 2004, but has scored 18 goals in the Swiss top flight this season.
