Australian World Cup star Luke Wilkshire has begun a trial with Eredivisie outfit FC Twente.

Wilkshire left Bristol City during the summer after seeing his contract at Ashton Gate expire and has been searching for a new club.

A number of teams in Europe have reportedly been interested in the 24-year-old, with Premiership duo Everton and Reading both thought to be keeping tabs on his situation.

Former Socceroos coach Guus Hiddink has previously stated that Wilkshire should opt for a move to Holland or Belgium.

The Australian has taken the Dutchman's advice and travelled to Holland to train with Twente in a bid to win a contract at the Arke Stadion.

Twente are keen to bolster their line-up ahead of the new season and the former Middlesbrough man is thought to be a player they have been targeting to strengthen their midfield.
