Vitesse Arnhem have been forced to scrap plans to sign Feyenoord winger Anthony Lurling on loan.

Feyenoord announced on Tuesday that they had agreed to send Lurling on loan to Vitesse for the season.

There was also an option for Vitesse to make the deal for the 27-year-old permanent at the season's end.

But Vitesse have now pulled out of the deal as they cannot afford the cash to pay for Lurling's loan from De Kuip.

The collapse of the move leaves Lurling in limbo as he does not figure in the plans of new Feyenoord coach Ruud Gullit.

Lurling joined the Rotterdam-based side from Heerenveen two years ago and had been a regular under previous coach Bert van Marwijk.

Gullit, though, does not appear to be a fan of the wide man and Lurling may now have to content himself with being a peripheral figure at De Kuip.

NAC Breda and Twente Enschede were also keen on the winger and Lurling will hope one of those clubs revive their interest despite his previous assertion that he wanted to join Vitesse.
