PSV are one win away from their first Eredivisie title in seven years - and they could clinch the crown live on Sky Sports 5 HD on Saturday when they take on Heerenveen.

But what do we know about the league leaders? Read our lowdown on the Eindhoven outfit...

Domestic giants

Philips Sport Vereniging - PSV - are one of 'the big three' in Holland, alongside Ajax and Feyenoord.

Never relegated from the top flight, PSV have won the Eredivisie 21 times - and are on the brink of title number 22 this season.

In domestic cup competitions they have lifted the KNVB Cup nine times and have the same number of Johan Cruyff Shields.

Over the years PSV have boasted some of the world’s best players who moved on to become legendary figures. The likes of Ruud Gullit, Romario, Ronaldo, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Arjen Robben have all played in the iconic red and white kit.

European success

PSV won the UEFA Cup in 1978 and the 1987-88 European Cup to secure the treble that year.

They have played in Europe every year since 1974 - a run which puts them third behind Barcelona and Anderlecht in terms of the longest streak.

However, they were comfortably dispatched by Zenit St Petersburg in the last 32 of the Europa League this season.

The fans

PSV draw an average crowd of 33,000 to their 35,000-capacity Philips Stadion.

Their fans are known as ‘Boeren’, meaning peasants, and are renowned for their passionate support.

Last month, in an attempt to keep on-loan Valencia midfielder Andres Guardado at the club, they held up the colours of the Mexican flag to show their support for the midfielder.

More bizarrely, they caught the attention of the worldwide media in August 2014 when they protested against the introduction of Wi-Fi at the stadium.

The Manager

PSV are managed by Phillip Cocu, a legend of the club who had two separate three-year stints playing for the side.

Having only retired in 2008, the 44-year-old got off to a slow start as manager in 2013, finishing fourth in his first season.

Facing pressure from fans and the press, with many feeling he lacked real leadership qualities, Cocu has turned it around this term and is now on the verge of winning his first league trophy as a manager by playing the positive, attractive football the board desires.

We look back at some of Memphis Depay’s most significant goals from the Eredivisie this season.

One of Europe’s hottest prospects, Memphis Depay is considered not just PSV’s star player but the best player in the Eredivisie right now.

Depay has been heavily linked with top Premier League clubs with reports suggesting Liverpool and Manchester United are among the front-runners. A move to Old Trafford would see the 21-year-old link up with his former Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal.

Depay is the league’s top scorer with 19 goals, despite being a winger, and has three assists.

Georginio Wijnaldum has also been linked with numerous clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United. The 24-year-old is PSV's third-highest top goalscorer and normally plays in an attacking-midfield role.

Formerly Newcastle target Luuk de Jong has also been crucial to the club’s rise to the top of the league. The striker ranks second behind Memphis in goals, scoring 17, and has seven assists. He is the brother of Siem de Jong who currently plays for Newcastle.

Jetro Willems is another one to watch. He was famously part of the Holland squad at Euro 2012, making him the youngest player ever at a UEFA European Championship, aged 17.

Now 21, the left-back has contributed 11 assists, ranking second in the entire league.

Premier League connection – past and present

Many players have moved from PSV to the Premier League over the years, including Robben, Heurelho Gomes, Van Nistelrooy and Mateja Kezman.

PSV’s current squad also contains a couple of players who have made the switch from the Premier League to play in Holland.

On-loan Manchester City defender Karim Rekik is a regular starter for PSV, while his partner in central defence, Jeffrey Bruma, is a former Chelsea youth team player.
