Philip Cocu understands PSV Eindhoven need to look for a replacement as he weighs up his future.

The veteran midfielder has yet to decide whether to retire in the summer, although PSV are keen for Cocu to carry on.

But while coach Ronald Koeman aims to persuade the former Holland international to stay, he is also scouting for a replacement.

"I regularly say to him that we would like him to stay," Koeman told the Dutch media.

"But I don't think that we have got an influence on his decision.

"We will get a replacement in any case."

Boudewijn Zenden, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Theo Janssen have all been linked with a summer move to the Philips Stadion, and Cocu understands the champions' need to line up other options.

Cocu said: "They have to do that, even if I continue.

"Then, maybe I can take a rest from a game now and then.

"I haven't taken a decision yet. The club know how I think about the situation and I know how the club think about it."
