Ronald Koeman is set to speak with Philip Cocu during the winter break to ascertain as to whether the midfielder wishes to extend his stay at PSV Eindhoven.
Cocu has taken on a new lease of life since leaving Barcelona for PSV in June 2004.
He has guided the club to back-to-back Eredivisie titles and Koeman wants him to carry on for another season at least.
Cocu has not yet made a decision on his future, but he is set to have a chat with his manager in the coming weeks.
"At our training camp in La Manga I will talk over the situation with Phillip with a good glass of rioja," Koeman told De Telegraaf.
"Cocu is fit and strong, so we won't have to talk long.
"But it is obvious that we would like to know early if he wants to play, as that will give us time, if necessary, to look at alternatives."
