PSV Eindhoven boss Ronald Koeman has swelled his ranks ahead of the new season with the loan capture of Ecuadorian international Edison Mendez.
The 27-year-old caught the eye at the World Cup finals in Germany this summer and has made a move to Europe by signing a season-long loan deal from LDU Quito.
Mendez went home to Ecuador after completing his medical, but Koeman expects him to return and make a big impact in Holland.
"He is set to be back at the start of next week and he will have obtained a work permit by the end of next week," Koeman told the club's website.
"Mendez has the ability to shuttle from box to box throughout the 90 minutes, but he can also be played on the flanks.
"He has been signed to fill the void we feel we have in midfield.
"He is a quality player that can make the rapid switch from defence to attack and may be the missing link."
