Gallardo snubs PSV

River Plate star Marcelo Gallardo has rejected an approach from PSV Eindhoven.

River Plate star Marcelo Gallardo has snubbed approaches from PSV Eindhoven and Sao Paulo in order to stay loyal to the Argentine club.

Gallardo's creative talents are well known and it would appear as if he had caught the eye of PSV coach Guus Hiddink.

River president Jose Maria Aguilar says Sao Paulo also attempted to lure the gifted midfielder to Brazil, but Gallardo reportedly rejected their approach out of hand.

"Sao Paulo made the proposal directly to the player and he refused it," said Aguilar. "They didn't even speak to his agent.

"The same happened with PSV."

Sao Paulo initially proposed a short-term deal, but later returned with a longer contract which was also rejected by the Argentine.

"The thing is that Gallardo is not interested in playing at Sao Paulo for only two games in the World Club Championship," added Aguilar.

"They then offered him a deal to play in the Copa Libertadores 2006, but what he really wants is to play in it for River because he has faith that we will win that competition next year.

"He also said no to an offer from PSV for the same reason, he wants to play in the Copa Libertadores with River."
