SUNDERLAND target Dennis Rommedahl hit the net as PSV Eindhoven ran-out 2-1 victors over NAC Breda, a victory that lifts them to the top of the KPN Eredivisie.

The reigning Dutch champions took the lead through Mark van Bommel after 56 minutes and Rommedahl added the crucial second seven minutes later.

Rob Penders netted a consolation for the home side in the final minute, but PSV held on for a win that puts them a point clear of Feyenoord - who did not play this weekend and have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, David Mendes da Silva's strike 14 minutes from time salvaged a point for Sparta at home to RKC Waalwijk.

Bram Marbus' goal four minutes after the interval put the hosts in front but within 16 minutes they were behind due to goals from Rick Hoogendorp and John Van Loenhout, before Mendes' late intervention.

There was another late goal at Groningen where Hugo Alves Velame's strike sealed a 2-0 win for them over Twente Enschede, after Peter Hoekstra's strike three minutes after the break had put them in front.

Finally, Utrecht earned a 3-1 victory over De Graafschap on Sunday. An Igor Gluscevic double, either side of a Reiner Robbemond own goal put them in control of the game before Dave van den Berg's strike two minutes from time sealed victory for Mark Wotte's side.
