Ajax defender says Spurs are not the only interested club

Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen has insisted there are other clubs interested in securing his services apart from Tottenham. Harry Redknapp has attempted to play down the likelihood of Vertonghen joining Spurs by stressing that he is just one of several players under consideration. However, Rafael van der Vaart has claimed that a deal is close to be being finalised for the Belgian, who has been linked with a move to England for some time. Vertonghen said: "I have a choice. There's something happening with Tottenham, but there are other clubs interested.

Realisation

"For me, it is important to get regular playing time. I also need a stable club." The 25-year-old has also been connected with Barcelona but has previously expressed an interest in joining a 'magnificent club' like Arsenal and admits playing in the Premier League appeals to him more than other European competitions. "In England, there is a growing realisation that you can go far with good football. Arsenal started it and now you also see clubs like Newcastle United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur playing good football," he added.
