Ajax secured a much-needed win following a 4-1 triumph over RKC Waalwijk at the Amsterdam ArenA.

The visitors almost went in at the break ahead when Rick Hoogendorp opened the scoring on 43 minutes, but Hedwiges Maduro levelled matters moments later.

It was all Ajax after the break with Wesley Sneijder adding a second shortly after the interval.

With the visitors pushing forward in the closing stages two late goals from Markus Rosenberg and Ryan Babel (pictured) clinched the points.

Elsewhere, Vitesse Arnhem's hopes of catching the leading pack suffered a blow with Rutger Worm's first half goal sending them to a 1-0 loss at NEC Nijmegen.

Groningen have leapfrogged Twente Enschede following a 1-0 win over the 10-man side on Sunday.

Twente's hopes always looked slim at the Oosterpark when Blaise N'Kufo was sent off early.

However, it was far from a walk in the park with home fans waiting until the 72nd minute for Yuri Cornelisse to finally break the deadlock.

ADO Den Haag secured just their third win of the season after a thrilling 3-2 away success over Sparta Rotterdam.

Joonas Kolkka opened the scoring only for Yuri Rose to level matters after 25 minutes.

However, Freddy Bodde restored Den Haag's advantage, although he would turn into the villain upon seeing red shortly after the hour mark.

Despite losing a man, Wesley Verhoek made sure of the points with a third, although Rose made it a nail-biting finish when he pulled one back in injury time.
