Roda JC have reluctantly agreed a deal with Ajax for talented striker Arouna Kone.

Ajax coach Ronald Koeman set his sights on a new front man when it became clear that he could do little to keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Netherlands.

With Swedish forward Ibrahimovic on the brink of a move to Juventus, Koeman has urged his board to pull out all the stops to conclude a deal for Kone.

Ajax have tempted Roda into selling the striker with a substantial package. The Limburgers have expressed their sorrow at losing a player of the talent of Kone, but claim they have been well compensated.

"This is the largest transfer in the Netherlands," said Roda technical director Nol Hendriks.

"We are happy with the amount we have received, but unhappy at losing such a class player after just one year."

The finer details are expected to be concluded before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, with Roda looking to bring in a suitable replacement.

Ajax are said to be offering Yannis Anastasiou in part exchange, but Roda are assessing other options before committing themselves.

Anastasiou arrived at Ajax from Roda last season and played a part in them securing the Eredivisie title, but he has been deemed surplus to requirements and a loan deal is expected to be concluded later on Tuesday.

Kone had been watched by both Marseille and Manchester United, but it would appear as if he will increase his experience in Holland before spreading his wings.
