Maarten Stekelenburg has won the battle of the goalkeepers at Ajax after it was confirmed he will start the season ahead of Bogdan Lobont in the pecking order.

Stekelenburg is viewed by many in Holland as the long term successor to Edwin van der Sar in the national team, but he missed out on a place at Euro 2004 as he was restricted to life on the bench at the Amsterdam ArenA last term.

Lobont was a key figure as Ajax won the title last term, but Koeman stressed there would be a clean slate at the start of the summer.

It would appear as if 22-year-old Stekelenburg has persuaded Koeman that he is the right man to start the season in goal.

Ajax, meanwhile, have confirmed the season-long loan of Gaston Sagnoy from Boca Juniors.

The 19-year-old striker will be given the season to prove he is capable of a long-term deal.

Sagnoy is the second arrival from Boca this summer, following the earlier loan capture of Sebastian Rusculleda.
