Feyenoord went some way to easing the pressure off the shoulders of coach Bert van Marwijk with an Amstel Cup win over Vitesse Arnhem, while Ajax suffered a shock home defeat to NAC Breda.

Club president Jorien van den Herik has questioned some of van Marwijk's decisions, so the gritty 1-0 win, courtesy of a fine 37th minute goal from Anthony Lurling, will go some way to easing the tension at De Kuip.

Ajax were confidently expected to see off NAC, but they were undone by a 54th minute strike from Ali Boussaboun.

Utrecht were forced to come from behind to beat RKC Waalwijk 3-1 at Nieuw Galgenwaard.

Robert Fuchs had given RKC the lead, but the game turned when Serginho Greene was dismissed in the build up to Hans van der Haar's leveller.

Stefaan Tanghe (pictured), buoyed by recently signing a new deal, scored the crucial second moments before the interval and he added a late third to book Utrecht's place in the last eight.

Youssouf Hersi scored late on to give NEC Nijmegen a hard-fought win at Heerenveen.
