Stekelenburg sidelined

THE goalkeeping crisis at Ajax shows no signs of abating, with Maarten Stekelenburg facing up to two months on the sidelines with a broken wrist.

Stekelenburg complained of pain in his wrist during last week, and tests on Friday confirmed he had broken a bone in the lower part of his hand.

Surgeons have told the player that he will be sidelined until some point in February, leaving coach Ronald Koeman (pictured) desperately short of goalkeeping options.

Bogdan Lobont has been out for some time, as has Henk Timmer, leaving the less than fully fit Joey Didulica to face Excelsior on Sunday.
