AJAX are likely to be without reserve goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg for the next six weeks.

The custodian picked up a knee injury during the club`s training camp in Portugal, and tests have revealed ligament damage that will keep him out of action until some time in March.

The news is a blow to coach Ronald Koeman (pictured), who is already without ArenA number one Fred Grim, meaning youngsters Joe Didulica and Serge van den Ban will be asked to keep their title challenge on track.

Stekelenburg had impressed Koeman during the winter break, and would have been pressing Grim upon his return from a knee injury, but he will now have to battle back to fitness and work hard to regain his place on the bench.

The 36-year-old Grim is expected to have a stringent test on his knee during this week, but is unlikely to be fit for the weekend clash with Den Bosch.
