Steve McClaren: Winning return to FC Twente for the former England manager

Steve McClaren's second spell in charge of FC Twente started in style with a crushing 5-0 win over RKC Waalwijk.

The former England boss returned to the Eredivisie club this month, who he had in 2010 guided to a first league title in their history.

And having endured a 2011 which he would most likely prefer to forget following miserable reigns at Wolfsburg and then Nottingham Forest, McClaren experienced a dream return.

With the Eredivisie returning from the winter break, two goals from Luuk de Jong (26 & 54) and efforts from Emir Bajrami (35), Nacer Chadli (65) and Ola John (81) wrapped up an impressive win.

The success allowed third-placed Twente to move to within two points of leaders AZ Alkmaar.

Bas Dost struck twice as 10-man Heerenveen kept up their pursuit of European qualification with a 2-0 win over De Graafschap.

The visitors looked sharp on the counter-attack, but were made to work for the win, not least after losing Darryl Janmaat to a first-half red card.

Dost's eye for goal proved decisive, however, as his goals in each half earned his side a welcome victory.

NAC Breda pressed the self-destruct button as they were reduced to nine men en route to a comprehensive defeat at Excelsior.

The visitors were already a goal down to Rangelo Janga's 36th-minute header when Kees Luijckx was dismissed after 56 minutes.

Roly Bonevacia followed his team-mate down the tunnel four minutes later and Excelsior duly took advantage, sealing the win with goals from Roland Alberg (63) and Darren Maatsen (89).
