Pontus Wernbloom: Set to embark on a new challenge after two-and-a-half years with AZ Alkmaar

Pontus Wernbloom is on his way to CSKA Moscow, with AZ Alkmaar announcing that they have granted him permission to move on.

The Sweden international has spent two-and-a-half years in Holland with AZ, and has been a regular throughout his time with the club.

He has, however, accepted the offer of a new challenge in Russia.

AZ have confirmed that a deal is in place for the midfielder, with the relevant paperwork about to be processed.

Wernbloom is on his way to Moscow to put pen to paper, with his agent and lawyer also set to be present when he thrashes out personal terms.

Paperwork

AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek was unaware that an agreement was so close, but he has admitted that the 25-year-old will be moving on.

"I have just heard the news from (technical director) Earnest Stewart," he told De Telegraaf.

"Everything has to be put down on a paper, but it is almost done."

Reports in Holland suggest AZ will receive €3million (£2.5m) for Wernbloom, who had been under contract until the summer of 2013.
