AZ Alkmaar moved to within four points of leaders Ajax with a 5-1 drubbing of Utrecht.

Utrecht were unable to cope with AZ's slick, attacking play and fell behind to Stijn Schaars' (pictured) free kick on 25 minutes.

Things got worse shortly after the interval as Shota Arveladze doubled AZ's advantage and David Mendes da Silva made sure of victory with a brace of goals.

Maarten Martens added a fifth to cap an excellent day for AZ, but they blotted their copybook slightly as Marc-Antoine Fortune netted a consolation from the spot for Utrecht.

Feyenoord have been inconsistent this term, but they were on their best behaviour on Sunday as they claimed a 2-1 win at Roda JC.

Roda led through Adil Ramzi's goal, but Feyenoord bounced back to claim victory thanks to strikes from Angelos Charisteas, his first for the club, and Stein Huysegems.

It took ten games, but Sparta Rotterdam secured their first win of the season on Sunday.

It has been a poor season to date, but Ivan Cvetkov handed the club some cheer when popping up 20 minutes from time against Willem II.

Twente have made an excellent start to the season and they were in hot form on Sunday, romping to a 4-0 win over NEC Nijmegen.

Rob Wielaert and Otman Bakkal (2) had Twente 3-0 to the good inside 20 minutes and a late goal from Blaise N'Kufo put some gloss on the scoreline.

NAC Breda's home game with Groningen ended goalless.
