Eredivisie Round-Up

AZ Alkmaar hammered NAC Breda 8-1 on the opening day of De Eredivisie.

AZ Alkmaar got off to an emphatic winning start on the opening day of the new Eredivisie season with an 8-1 pummelling of NAC Breda.

AZ got the ball rolling with two first half strikes. Danny Koevermans notched first in the 33rd minute, before Simon Cziommer doubled his side's lead five minutes from the interval.

Ronnie Stam halved arrears a minute after half time, but from then on it was one-way traffic as AZ asserted their superiority.

Joris Mathijsen struck in the 54th minute and Cziommer added his second two minutes later.

Stijn Schaars (58) made it 5-1 and Tim de Cler made it six in the 64th minute.

Koevermans added his second of the game in the 71st minute and, ten minutes from time, Cziommer ended the scoring, mercifully for NAC, with his hat-trick strike and goal number eight.

Afonso Alves scored a dramatic late winner as Heerenveen claimed a 3-2 win at ADO den Haag, who twice held the lead in an absorbing match.

Aleksandar Rankovic scored for ADO in the 40th minute - however the hosts' advantage was immediately cancelled out by Thomas Bosvelt.

ADO regained the lead through Tininho's 58th minute penalty, but Ugur Yildirim scored eight minutes from time to seemingly salvage a draw for the visitors.

Then three minutes into time added on at the end of the game, Alves claimed the winner to record the unlikely victory.

Elsewhere, Willem II beat Utrecht 2-1.

Mounir El Hamdaoui's 23rd minute penalty for the home side cancelled out Marc-Antoine Fortune's early breakthrough.

And the turnaround was complete eight minutes from time when Iwan Redan sent the hosts' supporters home happy.

Roda JC also got off to a winning start at newly-promoted Excelsior, with Christian Gyan putting through his own net in the ninth minute.
