AZ Alkmaar are keen on both Lasse Nilsson and Moussa Dembele, but talks with Joris Mathijsen have stalled.
The Alkmaar club have had a fine season in the Eredivisie, but PSV Eindhoven proved their masters in the title race.
Coach Louis van Gaal clearly believes he needs to bolster his ranks in order to challenge PSV and has set his sights on Heerenveen forward Nilsson and Willem II striker Dembele.
AZ would also like to retain the services of defender Mathijsen, but talks over a new contract have stalled.
The 25-year-old has a further two years to run on his present deal, but is seeking a wage increase.
"I find this a fine club and it is logical to listen when the club requests to talk," said Mathijsen.
"Now we both know what we want from each other, but we haven't come to an agreement."
