AZ Alkmaar are expected to wrap up the capture of RKC Waalwijk's Maarten Martens provided the midfielder proves his fitness following a knee injury.
The 21-year-old damaged his knee last month and has been informed he could miss the remainder of the season.
The Belgian had caught the eye of AZ earlier in the season and the Alkmaar outfit will look to sign him when he returns to fitness.
"Provided everything works out with his knee, which seems certain, there will be a signature on a deal in May," the player's agent Jacques Liechtenstein told AD Sportwereld.
AZ sporting director Marcel Brands issued a word of caution, adding: "We still have not drawn a line under the name of Martens, we are looking at others.
"In this case I do not want to rush anything."
RKC, meanwhile, have lost the services of striker Hans van der Haar for a couple of months after he broke a metatarsal.
