AZ Alkmaar put their recent run of poor form behind them with a 2-0 win at NEC Nijmegen.

AZ slipped out of the Uefa Cup and lost ground in the Eredivisie title race with two defeats last month, but they started March on the right note.

A trip to NEC was a daunting assignment, but they stood firm in the first half before taking the game by the scruff of the neck shortly after the interval.

Haris Medunjanin fired AZ ahead on 48 minutes and a strike by Danny Koevermans shortly afterwards knocked the stuffing out of NEC.

The victory moves AZ to within a point of second placed Feyenoord, while NEC remain eighth.
