Ajax sweet on Denny

Ajax boss Ronald Koeman has admitted an interest in AZ Alkmaar's Denny Landzaat.

Ajax boss Ronald Koeman has admitted an interest in AZ Alkmaar midfielder Denny Landzaat.

The 28-year-old, who started his career at Ajax, has made giant strides since moving to AZ from Willem II and has established himself as a firm fixture in Marco van Basten's Oranje squad.

Koeman has been an admirer of the classy midfielder for some time and feels the player would relish a return to Ajax, but admits AZ's demands may prove beyond him.

"He is a good player, who also would love to play for Ajax," Koeman told AD Sportwereld.

"His price at Willem II, when we were interested, was about ‚é¼9 million and that was too high.

"And I have no idea what it will be now."

Koeman, meanwhile, was pleased with the 4-1 win over RBC Roosendaal on Sunday and believes Ajax are ready to make a sustained title charge.

A poor start to the season has handed PSV Eindhoven a sizeable cushion, but he feels his players are ready to hit top form.

"We have made changes and things have improved," he said. "But we can be even better still."
