Feyenoord have distanced themselves from reports linking them with a shock summer move for Joris Mathijsen.

Mathijsen's future appeared to have been settled late last month when it was announced that the Willem II defender had signed a pre-contract with AZ Alkmaar.

The player's hopes of having a settled final few months of the season at Willem II were dashed at the weekend when it was reported that Feyenoord had contacted AZ about taking him in the summer.

Any deal would involve the Kuip club paying a substantial compensation package to AZ, but the Rotterdammers have come out to distance themselves from the reports.

"We aren't busy with (the transfer of) Joris Mathijsen," Feyenoord technical director Mark Wotte told Rotterdams Dagblad.

It remains to be seen if Mathijsen lines up for AZ next term, or is lured to a different destination in the summer.
