Feyenoord goalkeeper Boy de Jong will play for Eerste Divisie side Excelsior on a season-long loan, the Rotterdam-based club confirmed today.

The 19-year-old stopper makes the switch to Excelsior, who have a partnership Feyenoord, to gain more experience of first-team football.

Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel said: "For Boy it's important to remember there are a lot of games to come. That's why he gets the chance to go to Excelsior to gain experience and is there to develop."

De Jong said: "I did not have to think about this step. Guys like Jordy Clasie and Erwin Mulder have lots of fun playing at Excelsior and Matthew Steenvoorden and Elvis Manu are very positive about the club.

"I see this as a good step to further develop myself and am really looking forward to the new season."
