FC Twente manager Steve McClaren has admitted his side must improve soon if they are to remain in contention for the title.

Twente have not won a league game since returning from the winter break to drop them down to fourth.

McClaren's side had been level with leaders PSV Eindhoven at the turn of the year and, ahead of Saturday's visit of Willem II, concedes they must end a four-game winless run.

"We are the first to admit that in the past few weeks we have not played well," he told a press conference.

"The football that we have played has not fitted with what FC Twente wants."

Part of Twente's problems has been some stuttering form in Enschede.

After starting the season with five successive league wins at the De Grolsch Veste they have won just two of their next five.

"We are in a difficult stage of the season and so it is important to be united," McClaren said.

"That unity shone through with the fans during the home win over Feyenoord (3-0 in November)."
