Russian giants swoop for Nigerian on five-year deal

Teenage forward Ahmed Musa has spurned reported interest from the Premier League and departed VVV Venlo for Russian giants CSKA Moscow on a five-year deal. The 19-year-old had been linked with several clubs, including Arsenal and Everton, but has chosen to join big-spending CSKA, who are currently second in the Russian Premier League. Musa, who is rated as one of Nigeria's rising stars and has already been capped 12 times for his country, scored eight goals in 37 Eredivisie appearances for VVV. He follows in the footsteps of highly-rated playmaker Keisuke Honda in moving from Venlo to the Russian capital club. "I never dreamt of such a move when I arrived in the Netherlands," Musa told UEFA's official website. "I'm glad I was given the chance to show what I could do at Venlo. Now there's a great challenge ahead at CSKA. "I'm happy to join a top club where I can win trophies and feature in Europe. That's why I agreed to move here and I can't wait to play my first game for CSKA." Musa joins CSKA in time for their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie against Real Madrid, starting with the first leg in Moscow on 21st February.
