Centre-back Wielaert arrived at the Eredivisie club on loan from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer having failed to establish himself in Amsterdam.

The 31-year-old defender will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract with Ajax expires.

But while admitting both Roda and Wielaert are feeling optimistic about the player's future, Van Geel refused to confirm whether the club wants to swoop for him on a long-term basis.

Positive

"The only concrete thing I can say at the moment is that both we and Robbie are positive when we look to the future," Van Geel told Voetbal International.

The Roda official added that the Dutch club have plenty of time to make a decision over Wielaert, with the stopper not out of contract until June.

"We have in mind how the selection will look next season," he added.

"But there is no hurry to go around the table with players whose contracts expire next summer."
