Feyenoord have confirmed that star midfielder Jonathan de Guzman will require an operation on his latest knee injury.
The 22-year-old limped off at half-time during last Saturday's win over RKC Waalwijk and an MRI scan has since revealed a cartilage tear in his right knee.
De Guzman, who has been persistently linked with a move to La Liga giants Valencia, will therefore have to go under the knife to solve the problem.
The Dutchman is frustrated that he is facing another spell on the sidelines after missing almost all of last season with an injury to his left knee.
He told Feyenoord's official website: "This is obviously a severe blow to me.
"I'm just back from an injury and could have finally been of value to Feyenoord."
It is not yet known how long De Guzman is set to be unavailable, but he is expected to be facing several months of rehabilitation.
