Former Holland star could leave De Kuip

New Feyenoord boss Mario Been has told Roy Makaay that he can leave the club if he receives a suitable offer. The 34-year-old former Deportivo La Coruna and Bayern Munich striker is currently out of favour at De Kuip and club director Eric Gudde admits he can understand his frustrations. "Given his reputation and impressive honours, we can well imagine that Roy does not want to end his career with a team where he is not guaranteed a starting place," he told the club's official website.

However, while Been is prepared to allow Makaay to leave, he says he would prefer to see him stay. "I will not oppose a move but only if Roy Makaay himself says he wants to try his luck elsewhere and a great opportunity presents itself," he said. "I hope that will not be the case."
