Rovers put survival first

Blackburn Rovers have put all new contract talks on hold until they secure their Premier League survival. A number of stars, including Andre Ooijer, Aaron Mokoena and Tugay, all see their current deals expire in the summer and they could leave for nothing. Despite gambling on keeping the players at Ewood Park beyond the end of the season, Rovers chairman John Williams insists all the focus must be on avoiding relegation. "Our whole focus has to be on staying up at the moment. That is what every single effort is being put into at the moment," Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph. "We are not in contract discussions with any of our senior players at this moment, that will have to wait. "The only contracts that are being talked about at the moment is for the youngsters, like offering Andy Haworth a new deal this week. We want to make sure we keep the best youngsters."
