It now seems extremely likely Heerenveen striker Gerald Sibon will end his career with the club.
The former Sheffield Wednesday player is in his second spell with the Dutch club and manager Yme Kuiper is confident the veteran will sign a new deal.
He said: "We really want Gerald to stay. Last season he played really well and he still is an important player for us.
"Gerald turns 35 in April, we are talking about a renewal of one year. We also asked him what kind of ideas he has about the time after his football career."
