Manager sacked after no wins in opening five games of the season

Eredivisie outfit Roda JC have sacked manager Raymond Atteveld after a disappointing start to the season. The Dutch side believed that the working relationship between coach and players had broken down to such an extent that they were left with no alternative but to relieve Atteveld. The 42-year-old had fallen out with key members of the side such as Marcel Meeuwis and Pa-Modou Kah. Meeuwis had become so disillusioned with proceedings that he relinquished the captaincy while Kah spoke openly about the manager's failings. Roda are now set to step up their search for a successor, with a number of names already in the frame. Former player Ernie Brandts, who coached NAC Breda last season has been touted, while Jos Luhukay is in contention after being sacked by Borussia Monchengladbach. Belgian coach Hugo Broos is a further option believed to feature on Roda's shortlist.
