Heerenveen have signed Czech Republic Under 21 international Milan Kopic on a four-year contract.
Kopic has joined the Dutch side from Mlada Boleslav and links up with compatriot Michael Svec, who moved to Heerenveen in January.
The 22-year-old can play at centre-half or left-back, and insists Svec's presence was not a major influence on his decision to join Heerenveen.
"I am glad that Michael plays here," Kopic told the club's official website. "He is a friend and will undoubtedly be a help to me.
"That Michael plays here, though, was not a reason for me to choose Heerenveen. Even without him, I would have immediately signed.
"Heerenveen is a big club. It seems wonderful to be here to play in a sold-out stadium."
Kopic's agent Jiry Rosicky admits the player's target is to now break into the senior Czech Republic squad.
Rosicky said: "Milan hopes to develop himself at Heerenveen to make the step up to the Czech national team."
