Dennis Bergkamp is expected to begin his coaching career with Ajax.
Holland coach Marco van Basten will take the reins at the Amsterdam Arena after Euro 2008.
Van Basten's backroom staff has already finalised but he has revealed that the Arsenal legend has been offered a trainee post.
Bergkamp would serve the apprenticeship as part of his professional coaching course with the KNVB.
"I think that Dennis could make players better," said Van Basten.
"I called Dennis because I was curious how he was doing and I wanted to know if he could possibly mean anything for Ajax, in any possible way.
"I hope and expect that this is good for Ajax and for Dennis.
"At Ajax, Dennis can discover how he finds it to be on the pitch in another role."
As part of Van Basten's alterations to his backroom staff, current assistant Hennie Spijkerman has been offered the head scout's role.
"We are, indeed, speaking with each other. Hennie has a positive feeling about it all," said technical director Martin van Geel.
