Feyenoord have handed a new contract to Dutch international Ron Vlaar.

The 23-year-old defender has penned a fresh four-year deal at De Kuip.

Vlaar's current deal was due to expire in 2009, but they have now extended his stay until 2012 despite the fact he is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury.

Vlaar damaged cruciate knee ligaments against Roda in September.

Meanwhile, Roy Makaay has resumed training with the hope he will be fit to play in the Dutch Cup final on April 27.

Makaay tore ankle ligaments against AZ Alkmaar on March 12th, but he has now returned to training.

Feyenoord are due to play Roda this weekend, and Makaay could be involved.

If Makaay does feature he will then be in line to play in the final, which is also against Roda.
