Heracles Almelo picked up their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw at Sparta Rotterdam.
The visitors were heading for a fifth straight defeat after Nourdin Boukhari put Sparta ahead (31) but Everton equalised in the 63rd minute.
De Graafschap leapfrogged Vitesse Arnhem into fourth place with a 2-0 away win at The Gelredome.
Second-half goals from Purrel Frankel (68) and Berry Powel (90) secured all three points for De Graafschap.
Elsewhere, Ibrahim Kargbo's 45th minute strike gave Willem II a home victory against Roda JC.
