Glen Salmon admits he would prefer to join AZ Alkmaar, rather than sign for Heerenveen.
The striker is available on a free transfer after opting not to renew his contract with Groningen, and he has been linked with both AZ and Heerenveen.
His exploits on loan at NAC Breda in the second half of last season have sparked interest from AZ, who could lose Danny Koevermans over the summer.
Salmon is aware of AZ's interest and the African forward is now waiting to discover if there will be a concrete offer.
"A top club, you want to experience that," Salmon told BN/De Stem. "As a footballer you just want to become better.
"I heard that Louis van Gaal is interested in me, that's nice to hear, but you always have to wait to see if you get the chance."
Regarding a deal with Heerenveen, Salmon said: "Because we are looking for a new environment, it is actually not the intention to return to the north.
"That's why I haven't taken a decision yet about their offer."
