Borussia Monchengladbach are expected to offer freshly-capped Germany international Marcell Jansen a more lucrative deal in order to reward the much-praised youngster for his latest efforts and stave off potential interest from abroad.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly a big fan of the talented 19-year-old left back and has sent scouts to watch him in action on several occasions.

Those activities spread fear around the Borussia-Parc that Jansen might be prised away and the Foals are determined to ward off such a threat.

The youngster only signed a professional contract last year, which does not expire until 2008, but the five times German champions are willing to grant him a significant wage increase.

"The club signalled that they want to talk to us and I think we will wait and check the conditions they are going to offer us before we make a final decision," declared Jansen's agent Gerd Vom Bruch.

After starring for the Under-20 side, Jansen made his full international debut during Saturday's 2-0 defeat in Slovakia, coming on as a second half substitute, and is set to start his first match for Germany on Wednesday when Jurgen Klinsmann's team face South Africa in a friendly at Bremen's Weserstadion.
