Belgian international Wesley Sonck will miss the first six weeks of the new season.Borussia Monchengladbach will be without Belgian international Wesley Sonck for the next six weeks as the striker broke three ribs on Friday.
Sonck suffered the injury during the Foals goalless draw with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven and the latest setback tops a miserable spell for the powerful forward, who joined the club only last winter from Ajax.
Illness and injury meant that the former Genk star made only seven Bundesliga games during his first six months at the Borussia-Park and his attempts to win a regular starting place in Horst Koppel's side have now received another blow.
The 27-year-old will not be able to return to match action before the middle of September and his absence leaves Koppel with only Oliver Neuville and Vaclav Sverkos ready for selection, as former Bayern Munich and Lyon star Giovane Elber has only just returned to full training after spending almost the entire year on the sidelines with a broken foot.
Gladbach will open the 43rd Bundesliga campaign on Friday with a difficult trip to the Allianz-Arena where they face Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
