Borussia Monchengladbach have completed their sixth new signing during the winter transfer window, with Belgian Filip Daems moving to the club.

The 26-year-old left-sided defender, who has joined the Foals from Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi, is seen by Gladbach's management team as the ideal cover for injury-plagued club captain Christian Ziege.

Ziege (pictured), who had already missed a couple of games during the first half of the season, is once again sidelined with thigh problems and it remains to be seen if the injury-prone veteran will be able to return to Bundesliga match action in the next weeks.

"We had already reached an agreement for him to join us in the summer, but after Christian's latest injury we decided to conclude the transfer and bring Filip to Gladbach now," commented sport director Christian Hochstatter.

Daems follows compatriots Wesley Sonck and Bernd Thijs, German international Jorg Bohme, US goalkeeper Kasey Keller and former Rangers defender Craig Moore to the Borussia Park this winter, as coach Dick Advocaat attempts to lead the five-time Bundesliga champions clear of relegation trouble.
