Gladbach eye Sonck

Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to offer Wesley Sonck a route out of Ajax.

Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to offer Belgian striker Wesley Sonck a route out of Ajax.

Sonck has struggled to hold down a regular starting place in Amsterdam this term, as Ronald Koeman has opted to place Ryan Babel and Yannis Anastasiou ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Belgian's chances receded further this week with the news that Koeman had completed the capture of Angelos Charisteas from Werder Bremen.

Greek international Charisteas is expected to spearhead Ajax's quest for honours in the second half of the season and Sonck could well be available for transfer in January.

Gladbach chief Dick Advocaat is keen to bring in a new striker to fire them away from the drop zone and he has reportedly set his sights on Sonck after being priced out of the bidding for Feyenoord's Thomas Buffel and Arouna Kone of Roda JC Kerkrade.

Ajax are believed to be ready to move Sonck on in January and could be prepared to thrash out a deal with Gladbach.
