Baggies defender has been in touch with club

Gonzalo Jara is safe having been in Chile when Saturday's huge earthquake struck the South American nation, West Brom have confirmed. Jara has effectively been ruled out for the rest of the season having broken his metatarsal in the club's initial FA Cup fifth-round meeting with Reading just over two weeks ago. Before starting his rehabilitation later this month with the aim of being fit for the World Cup, the versatile 24-year-old returned to Chile's capital Santiago to spend time with family and friends. Jara was in the country when the 8.8 magnitude quake - one of the most powerful recorded - struck close to the city of Concepcion, although the devastating effects have been felt far and wide. Albion sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth told the club's official website: "Gonzalo has travelled back to Santiago for a couple of weeks before he begins his rehabilitation with us. "We have been in contact with him and, although he is obviously shocked by the events, we are pleased to report he is safe."
