George Burley felt Southampton should have won at Barnsley, while Simon Davey is looking for his players to push on.
Barnsley took a 2-0 lead into half-time before Bradley Wright-Phillips struck twice to secure Saints a point at Oakwell.
But with Tykes keeper Heinz Muller in fine form, Burley was left to reflect on a couple of points which got away.
"In those conditions we could have folded, but we came off the pitch thinking we should have won it," said Burley.
"Their keeper made a good save from Bradley and then Rasiak had a header where he normally would have scored.
"A change was needed in the second half and Bradley has got that pace, which he certainly showed when he came on."
Muller impresses
Burley also paid tribute to Muller, who is believed to be attracting interest from a clutch of Premier League clubs.
"The way he has performed this season, certainly Premier League clubs will look at him and think he can do a good job," said Burley.
Though Barnsley are exceeding expectations this season, Davey is keen to build on the progress made so far.
Davey said: "Obviously when you are in that position, we've got to learn to kill a game off.
"We conceded two in the second half, but that's not to take away from Southampton because they played well.
"We dominated for an hour and could have been three, four or five goals up. But that's the league we are in and we've got to take our chances.
"I can't fault the effort from the players in the past year and we've got to push on now in the second half of the season."
Distraught
Kayode Odejayi squandered a series of decent opportunities and was abused by home fans from the outset, with Davey pointing an accusing finger at the snipers among the Oakwell crowd.
He added: "I feel distraught for Kayode. I thought the fans got on his back from the start and it didn't help him.
"He's a talent, he's raw and he's improving, but sometimes people don't give you the chance.
"Supporters, press, don't see what we see in training."
