Leon Andreasen is hoping his switch to Mainz will allow him to gain regular first-team football.
The Danish defender has joined the Bundesliga strugglers on loan from Werder Bremen until the end of the season.
Andreasen struggled to feature on a regular basis during his 18-month stay at Werder, and is hoping the move to Mainz will allow him to see more action.
"The most important thing for Leon is to get some first-team football and the city and the club seemed to appeal to him," Andreasen's agent Ivan Marko Benes told Ritzau.
"He is looking forward to hopefully getting to play in the Bundesliga again."
Mainz have the option to keep Andreasen on loan for a further year if he impresses during his stint at the Stadion am Bruchweg.
