Slovakia shock France

Slovakia produced a stunning shock in Paris, beating France 2-1.

France suffered their first defeat since Euro 2004 when they were shocked 2-1 by Slovakia in Paris.

The French created the better openings in the first half, but David Trezeguet and Nicolas Anelka both squandered good chances, while playmaker Zinedine Zidane failed to impress.

Thierry Henry was brought on in the second half, but it was Slovakia, who failed to qualify for the World Cup, who struck first.

Szilard Nemeth scored a stunning goal, lobbing Fabien Barthez from 20 yards out after 60 minutes, to give the visitors a surprise lead.

France levelled through Sylvain Wiltord's penalty, after midfielder Florent Malouda was fouled (73).

There was a final twist in the tail though, Josef Valachovic slotting home a superb free kick after 80 minutes.
