Sparta Prague are reported to have failed in a bid to sign Middlesbrough's Szilard Nemeth.

The Slovakian international knows he is down the pecking order at The Riverside Stadium and was allowed to talk to interested clubs.

Moves to CSKA Moscow and Wigan failed to materialise over the summer, but Sparta attempted to seal a deal before Wednesday's deadline closed.

Nemeth was even quoted in the Slovak press confirming Sparta's interest.

"Yes, I had contact with Sparta," he is reported as saying.

However, the move has not come to fruition - and Nemeth, currently recovering from an ankle problem, will stay at Boro until January at least.
