Middlesbrough's Slovakian striker Szilard Nemeth is a loan target for Czech Republic side Sparta Prague.

Nemeth struggled for first-team opportunities at The Riverside last term, with Steve McClaren often preferring to utilise the player as a substitute.

The 28-year-old is keen to avoid a repeat of that scenario and has intimated his desire for regular first-team football.

The high-profile capture of Yakubu Aiyegbeni has pushed Nemeth further down the pecking order at Boro and a move away seems the only option for the Slovak.

The player's advisor Karol Csonto has now confirmed that Nemeth is having talks with Sparta Prague over a loan move.

Csonto told Slovak daily Novy Cas: "Szilard is keen on a loan move until December and Sparta have the added attraction of offering Champions League football.

"We should find out in the next few days if both clubs can come to an agreement."

Banik Ostrava had also been linked with a loan move for Nemeth but have now admitted that the move is a non-starter.

The Czech club's officer Jakub Kahoun admitted: "Nemeth was interested and we were hopeful.

"However, Middlesbrough wanted us to pay a part of his wages and we could not afford to do that."
